Our Story

Mustard Seed Columbus is a family catering business owned and operated by the nine Allwein children; and led by chef and father Gary Allwein.

Gary began his culinary voyage as a full time 16 year old su chef. His desire for food perfection helped to quickly bumped him up the culinary ladder. At the age of 21 chef Gary became the executive chef of the Claremont Hotel, and in two years he received a promotion as the executive chef of a Hilton Hotel at the age of 23. At the age of 26 he became the executive chef at the Ohio State Faculty Club where he supervised a kitchen staff of over 40 employees, and saw a sales increase of one million dollars over the course of 10 years.

Mustard Seed Catering was co-founded by chef and father of nine children Gary Allwein and his wife Christina Allwein. Christina completed the wedding floral arrangements while Gary produced the food. Each of their nine Allwein children (Dawn, Nathan, Anya, Heidi, Catharine, Jotham, Anthony, Dorothy, and Donald) have worked in almost every capacity since the start of the company.
